Topic: Emergency Heart First Aid via Zhongchong Point
Editor: Everyone should learn the emergency heart first aid method of pressing the Zhongchong point. Practice it on yourself until you are proficient so that you can achieve good results in an emergency. Remember, one person represents an entire family; when we learn first aid, it is a great benefit to ourselves and others in critical moments, preventing tragedies from unfolding.
Origin
On June 29, 2016, at approximately 7:30 PM, Jin Bo, deputy editor-in-chief of Tianya Community, suddenly collapsed at Hujialou Station on Beijing Subway Line 6 while commuting home. Several volunteers at the scene performed CPR, and subway staff called an ambulance, but 34-year-old Jin Bo did not survive. Doctors at the Chaoyang Hospital emergency department stated that he had no vital signs upon arrival, indicating sudden cardiac death.
When discussing this in our group, someone asked if the subway system should have emergency equipment. The "Old Master" (Grandpa) noted that sudden cardiac death happens very quickly—within tens of seconds. By the time emergency systems react and an ambulance arrives, it is often too late. If you have learned first aid and know how to press acupoints for self-rescue, it is the fastest and most convenient method before seeking professional medical help.
Therefore, this video series was filmed so that everyone can master these techniques.
Target Audience
For self-rescue and saving others, especially the elderly.
Scenarios
1. Cardiac arrest(Usually sudden, with a very short window of only tens of seconds)
2. Relief for cerebrovascular incidents(There is a buffer period ranging from tens of minutes to several hours)
3. Motion sickness (carsickness/seasickness)Nausea, vomiting, and heart palpitations
4. Nausea and vomiting after heatstroke(Can act as a heart stimulant)
When the heart is in distress, symptoms include chest tightness, palpitations, sweating, sharp pain, and radiating pain. A heart attack often feels like a giant hand squeezing the heart.
Operational Key Points
1. When a heart attack occurs, stand still and do not panic.Panic is the primary cause of death; the mortality rate for a first-time heart attack can reach 92%.。
2.Find the correct location of ZhongchongIt is located below the corner of the middle fingernail.
3.Press with firm, forceful pressureOnly by pressing hard enough to cause pain can you establish communication with the heart and achieve results.
4.After pressing Zhongchong for 2 minutes, combine it with flicking the pectoralis major, and stimulating Jiquan, Dabao, and Tanzhong points to effectively improve heart function.Flicking the pectoralis major, plucking Jiquan, rubbing (or tapping) Dabao, and rubbing Tanzhong can be performed in combination.

Q&A from Casual Chats
Q1:Grandpa, is pressing Zhongchong regularly good for heart maintenance as we age?
Do not stimulate emergency points during normal times; if you play with them too much, they won't work when you actually need them. It’s like "Suxiao Jiuxin Wan" (quick-acting heart pills)—if you take them too often, they won't work during a real heart attack. For elderly heart maintenance, moxibustion on Qihai can increase heart yang, paired with Zusanli. Remember, do not perform bloodletting on Zhongchong. Some online sources suggest it, but during a heart attack, bloodletting drains energy and is detrimental to recovery. Pressing it firmly is already a "draining" technique; bloodletting can cause heart spasms. If spasms cannot be relieved, heart disease occurs. Few people over middle age have perfectly healthy hearts, so you must learn how to maintain your heart after middle age.
Q2:Why does it hurt so much when I press Zhongchong? Is there something wrong with my heart?
A: Severe pain is a sign of deep-seated heart issues.
Q3:Grandpa, my colleague's father passed away suddenly recently. There were no signs; he just lowered his head while playing cards and was gone. They were in the countryside, and no one knew how to save him. I wonder if it was cardiac arrest or a stroke.
A: It is either the heart or the brain.
Q4:Clinical emergency treatment for the heart is excellent, using Zhongchong, Zhiyang, Jiquan, and Neiguan combined with Zusanli.
A: Zhongchong is the best and most convenient for self-operation. Other points like Zhiyang are far less convenient and effective than Zhongchong.

Yuxi:Grandpa, what is so magical about Zhiyang? @Grandpa
Grandpa:It saves lives! I have used a coin to provide emergency aid for countless heart attacks.
Yuxi:How do you use a coin? @Grandpa, start your solo story show.
Grandpa:Press the Zhiyang point with a coin; the more it hurts, the harder you press. Press Zhongchong, flick the chest muscles, pluck Jiquan, and tap/press Tanzhong and Dabao; you can relieve an acute heart attack in minutes and save a life. The mortality rate for a first heart attack is 92%, but it drops significantly for subsequent ones. Learning this simple first aid can save lives.
Xiao Aichen:Grandpa, is there a specific technique for the intensity of flicking, plucking, and tapping?
Grandpa:The feeling of a giant hand squeezing the heart is a heart attack. Do not panic or move. If there is a wall, lean against it; if not, just stand still. Firmly press Zhongchong to relieve it. You must press Zhongchong until it hurts!! Otherwise, the peripheral nerves cannot communicate with the heart, and it won't work. During a heart attack, the patient's lips turn dark, and they are extremely anxious and in pain. The rescuer should talk to them to calm them down and distract them while performing the technique. When performing on yourself, use enough force to feel pain, but not unbearable agony!!

/The Origin of Grandpa's "Aiwowo" (Moxa)/
The quality of moxa sticks only determines if the combustion is sufficient and if impurities affect heat stability. As long as it is not adulterated, it is fine. In 2015, I received four batches of adulterated moxa sticks and only found out after it was exposed online—unscrupulous merchants were grinding up cardboard boxes and mixing them into the moxa wool. It was impossible to tell from the outside. I was so angry that I started sourcing and processing the raw materials myself, just so our circle could use reliable moxa. That is how "Aiwowo" came to be!
